Final Issue of BaptistVoice
Cal Hunter, Managing Editor
The first issue of BaptistVoice was published in September, 2006. Since that time, we have never missed an issue and our readership has continued to expand steadily. Currently, we are reaching out not only to just about every place in the United States where Southern Baptists have a presence but also to several foreign countries.
Although BaptistVoice has been a phenomenal success, the decision has been made to make this, our 24th issue, the last issue.
The reason is a very simple one. The many tasks of writing and publishing our online magazine requires more time and effort than I am willing to continue putting forth. Perhaps a good way of putting it is “I have bought a boat, and I must go and prove it.” (See Luke 14:19) Additionally, my wife and I plan to spend more time on our place at Lake Eufaula and seeing more of the USA.
I want to take this means of expressing my appreciation and gratitude to the following two persons who have contributed so very, very much to the success of BaptistVoice.
1. Donna Smith
Donna is editor-in-chief of BaptistVoice. In spite of the heavy load of teaching writing for Wayland Baptist University, she always found time to review and edit every article printed in BaptistVoice—including all those written by me.
Donna is a world-class scholar in grammar and writing, but more important, she is a wholly committed Christian with a passion for writing and encouraging other writers. Donna has had many articles printed in major magazines and periodicals including
Guideposts, A Sixth Serving of Chicken Soup for the Soul, Mature Living, Home Life, Mature Years, Standard, Open Windows, Journey, Christian Social Action, Writer Magazine, Instructor…. She is a speaker and seminar presenter for inspirational writing groups.
Thank you, Donna, and God Bless you for all your help and guidance in putting BaptistVoice online.
2. Donna Garner.
Donna Garner is another world-class writer. She was appointed by President Reagan and re-appointed by President Bush to serve on the National Commission on Migrant Education. Additionally, she was chosen to help write the Texas education standards for English/Language Arts/Reading (ELAR).
Donna, a prolific writer, writes several articles every month for newspapers, magazines and journals across the United States.
Some of the most interesting and most powerful articles we have published have been authored by Donna Garner. We could always count on an article from her every month.
Thank you, Donna Garner, and I pray God will continue to bless you in a wonderful way as you continue your brilliant and powerful writing.
